How shops make this list

The rule here is the same as everywhere on The Franklin Local: locally owned and operated, or it doesn’t appear. No placement is paid, no placement is traded, and being featured can’t be bought — which matters more in shopping than any other category, because “boutique” is easy to fake and Main Street rent is not.

Downtown and The Factory are two different trips, and we treat them that way. Main Street is the stroll — storefronts, gifts, the browse-and-wander afternoon. The Factory is the maker economy under one roof — stalls and studios where the person behind the counter often made the thing you’re holding. The markets guide covers the third lane: the growers and makers who sell face-to-face on market days. We’re actively building this category out, and the fastest way to shape it is to tell us who we’re missing.
